In Adventure Class we believe learning should be fun, interactive and child led. Each Half Term we study a new learning experience. This means that all of our lessons are cross curricular and are always centred around the learning experience of the term. We believe this is the best way for children to learn because it enables them to fully immerse in a topic. We also always have a role play area which is created and changed regularly by the class to go alongside our learning experience. Adventure Class also love to learn outside where we have a sandpit, small world area and growing area. We aim to build children’s confidence and give children a love of learning!
We are learning
This half term we will be learning about rivers, in both the UK and the world. In Geography, we will be studying the River Stour and seeing how the river changes as it runs through the local countryside. By having first-hand experiences of looking at the course of this local river, we will gain knowledge of how the waterway and the the landscape that surrounds it, changes the river's journey. By using our mapping skills, observational skills and developing fieldwork techniques, we will learn new geographical vocabulary and will be able to name and describe the features of a watercourse.
Linking with our Geography lessons, the focus in Science will be finding out the water cycle and conducting investigations into evaporation and condensation. We will also learn about food chains and the classification of animals by looking at the creatures in our local environment.
In Art lessons, we will look closely at pieces by the impressionist painters Georges Seurat and Claude Monet. Using techniques similar to the ones used by these artists, we will create our own artwork inspired by their famous interpretations of water.
Writing a narrative will be the theme of our English Lessons. Developing our work on characterisation and settings will help support us when we write our very own adventure story entitled the 'raindrop'.
In Jigsaw (PHSE), we will be looking at the topic 'Healthy Me' and will be finding out how to stay both physically and mentally healthy.
